Iwo Jima

Iwo Jima was one of the most powerfuk battles of WW2. US forces were to take over the island in order for US bombers to carry less fuel and more bombs since Iwo Jima was very close to the Japan. Marines landed on beaches under fire from Jappanese machine gun nests and scatered Jappanese soldiers. Marines fought there way up Mount Subarachi. In the picture to the left Marines used a sewer pipe and put up the US flag. There was still many thousand Jappanese soldiers defending the island.
